The massive public charge rule that threatens to upend the legal immigration system is scheduled to take effect on October 15th and various lawsuits filed in courts around the country seek to stop or at least delay it.
Nine suits have been filed seeking to prevent the rule from taking effect and at least two had oral arguments this week regarding preliminary injunctions. A court will need to rule in the next few days if that is to happen.
The latest suit was filed on October 8th by the American Immigration Lawyers Association asking a judge to delay the start date of the rule because updated government forms, including a new form I-944 that was 19 pages in a draft version, have yet to be released even though they will be required as of October 15th.
