How long have you been with Miller Mayer and what is your role?
I joined the firm in 1990 as a legal assistant, so that’s 28 years now. My role has evolved over time as the company expanded, and I am currently the Office Manager. I oversee the administrative staff, human resources, and billing for the firm.
How has the firm changed over the years?
I was here for the start of the immigration practice and it was interesting to watch it change. First Steve (Yale-Loehr) joined and then Hilary (Fraser) and Rosanne (Mayer) shortly after. The practice group quickly grew. 25 years later, we have developed a well-respected, robust practice and even opened an office in China! It’s been great watching the company expand and getting to know all the talented people who have joined our ranks over the years.
What do you like most about working at Miller Mayer?
Some people may think attorneys are stiff and unfriendly, but I’ve found the opposite here. I have always gotten the support that I need from our attorneys and I really appreciate that. I think the work-life balance at the firm is great as well.
What do you find interesting about MM?
The firm is well known locally for our real estate and litigation work for example, but many locals have no idea how huge the immigration practice is and that we have clients from all over the world. As an extension, our office ends up being just as diverse as our clientele, with employees hailing from Thailand to France, Jamaica to Bulgaria, and all in-between. An unexpected perk is getting to celebrate all the extra holidays like Chinese New Year and trying out exotic treats people bring back from their travels.
Tell us a little bit more about yourself outside of the office:
I have two beautiful daughters ages 29 and 26 and a feisty 2 ½ year old granddaughter who is the light of my life. What amazes me is my oldest daughter was only a year old when I started at Miller Mayer. I enjoy gardening in the summer and cooking/baking during the winter.
Kim in her coworker’s words:
Rosanne Mayer, Partner: “Kim keeps us all sane and on track. It’s been great having her, making sure our office runs as it should, so we can focus on making a difference in our clients’ lives.”
Michelle Parker, HR Assistant: “Kim is amazing at her job and is a great mentor. If I had to pick one thing to mention it would be the home made cheesecake she treats us to! You have not tried cheesecake until you’ve tried Kim’s!”
