A study conducted by the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) found that denial rates for H-1B petitions have significantly risen, increasing from 6% for initial employment petitions in FY 2015 to 24% through the third quarter of FY 2019. NFAP found that the increasingly restrictive immigration policies put forth by the Trump administration have fueled this increase. In addition to the high denial rates for initial employment petitions, the denial rate for continuing employment H-1B petitions has reached an historic high through 3 quarters of FY 2019, reaching 12%, an alarming 4 times higher than the same denial rate in FY 2015 of just 3%.
