Nov 2, 2026 | Immigration Articles

On October 27, 2026, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the suspension of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Economic Vitality & Security Travel Authorization Program (EVS–TAP). EVS–TAP allowed prescreened nationals of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to travel to the CNMI without a visa for temporary visits under specified conditions.

The suspension was effective at 2 p.m. ET on October 30, 2026. The announcement states that the Secretary of Homeland Security “has determined that there is good cause to suspend EVS-TAP, while [the Department of Homeland Security], in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of the Interior, evaluates the program.”
