USCIS Proposes Substantial Fee Increases

Nov 20, 2019 | Immigration Updates

On November 14, 2019, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a proposed rule to dramatically increase fees in a number of visa categories. The proposed rule also contains procedural changes to application and petition processing that go beyond mere increases in processing fees.

One major change concerns the adjustment of status filing fee, which currently totals $1,225, including the fees for biometrics, travel, and work authorization. That fee would increase by $970 to a total of $2,195 because the fees for travel and work authorization would be charged separately. The proposed rule would also eliminate the current reduced fee for children under 14 and substantially increase the fee to apply to become a naturalized U.S. citizen.
